Richard’s Oil History

Richard Polselli worked in the oil business for ten years before he founded Richard’s Oil Company in 1982.

Richard started the company with the purchase of one van, two oil trucks, and a single advertisement that he ran in the local newspaper. With consistent publishing of ads in the local newspaper came consistent growth of the business. He grew the business by adding to his customer base one at a time.

After Richard’s second year in business, he started to hire additional employees. In 1986, Richard moved the business to 275 S. Main Street, Coventry, RI. In 2019, and under new ownership, Richard’s Oil moved to 2 Station Street, to allow for additional space needed for expansion plans.

But no matter the location, Richard’s Oil has always emphasized service, quality, and value to its customers.

Richard’s Oil has always remained true to its original, niche-focused goal of serving a particular market and doing that extremely well — OIL. Richard’s Oil has always serviced what it sold, and remains a true oil service and delivery company, with in-house, highly trained technicians ready to venture out in the most severe weather conditions to keep their customers comfortable. Always a people-focused business, Richard’s Oil proudly maintains person-to-person interactions with its customers to this day.

Many of Richard’s employees are of long tenure, such as secretary Irene Dugdale, who has been with the business for 26+ years, helping to provide oversight on the day-to-day needs of communications, and organization. Irene is an indispensable part of the team. And Mark Simas has been a driver for the company for the past 26 years, out there on the coldest of days to provide comfort to customers in need of heat.

Today, Richard’s Oil serves thousands of customers in the Rhode Island area. Our goal is to continue to provide heating home comfort by providing superior service, quality, and value.
